The Canadian Museum of Indian Civilization Inc. was founded in 1993 by Dr. Hariharan Krishnan, a retired professor of Anthropology at York University. Dr. Krishnan had a keen interest in the history and culture of the First Nations people of Canada, and he saw a need for a museum that would preserve and promote their heritage. With the help of his wife, Indira, and their children, Hariharan and Lakshmi, he opened CMIC to the public in 1995.
